10 Things you should avoid in your business

12 / 22 / 16 12 / 23 / 17

How are you from the last time you read my blog?

If you are new, welcome to my blog!

Some of the time when we are online we tend to focus on how to be successful immediately and try to do everything that others who appear to be successful are doing.

As you prepare to start your business, I wanted to share with you 10 things that you should avoid.

Don’t forget to check the sidebar and footer of this website for awesome resources!

online mistakes to avoid

Let’s do this!

♥ Do you! Find out what works for you and your business, when you have decided to do so you can focus on asking for additional help, whether it means to hire a mindset coach or a business coach, it’s up to you. Even if you don’t hire a coach, don’t focus on asking everyone for advice. Choose one person who can assist you; if this means that aligning yourself with a mentor who has gone down that path before, but PLEASE do not ask every and anyone for advice.

♥ Do not sign up for every opt-in that you see out there. This information might be vital to your business, but please remember that timing plays a vital part, you will soon see that your email inbox will become overwhelming.

♥ Do not join groups/communities that will not be beneficial to your business or you. This might be nice at times to join groups that you want to support, (Join my Free Facebook group, where the support is constant from other ladies by industries) but if you are going to do so add favorites to the ones that you are benefitting from and turn off the notifications from those that you do not want to be a part of at this time, or you may even hit the delete button.

♥ When focusing on your business, create a list of those person’s who might be a good collaborator for you. For example, you need to hire out for additional help ASAP, so you might need a Copywriter or even a Social Media Manager. It’s always best to have these individual’s information in one place and you may even use this resource to help someone else who might need the services of such individuals. So do not wait until you need the services of these individuals, search for them from day one when you are planning to get your business out there and have your resource list in hand.

♥ When sharing and using other person’s content, do not randomly share this information if your clients and business will not benefit from it. Let’s say you shared something that is non-fashion related on a Tuesday, this could be your day when you give tips to your clients and this may confuse your followers; so avoid randomly sharing things unless it’s within your theme day.

♥ Avoid using images that are on Google. Even though most might say they are free, try being a part of subscriptions sites that are free or paid. I have a guide HERE on some of my fave sites that I use pictures from. I also subscribe to IvoryMix, her pictures are awesome!

♥ When setting up your business, avoid accepting payments without having your policy, contract, documents looked over by a lawyer and make sure that when you do so that your clients understand and accept your terms before signing each.

♥ Avoid using platforms that are not reputable for your business. For example, if you are hosting your site on a free platform that does not allow SEO, Google will not know much about you unless through other mediums such as your social pages. Invest in a good platform such as WordPress, also make sure that you do your due diligence on hosting platforms, as well as people you might hire to create and maintain your sites.

♥ Avoid trying to do it all. Find the time to step back when things go wrong, and if they do, nothing is wrong to speak with someone to give you objective advice. Sometimes we might feel overwhelmed and pressured to do things a certain way or even like others but just don’t.

♥ Don’t plan and yes, you will fail. Don’t do things on the spur of the moment; this is a business. If it means that you will have to track your success and your failures do so, either weekly, monthly, or every quarterly period, do it with the intention of knowing how to grow from your mistakes.

It was nice of you to stop by.

Until then, happy hiring, and best wishes with your business.

How to become successful in your industry, once it’s online!

12 / 15 / 16 1 / 30 / 18

How are you from the last time you read my blog?

If you are new, welcome to my blog!

Some people have been tremendously supportive on my journey to becoming successful online, and so I wanted to share some of these lessons I have learned. I have put together 10 tips that you can use in your industry for you to be successful as well.

Don’t forget to check the sidebar and footer of this website for awesome resources!

recommended online successful tips

Tips I have learned over the course of my journey to get your business going.

♥ When you are branding your business, make sure all platforms have the same font size, colour, images as well as the same theme across all social media platforms.

♥ If you prefer to use a particular social media platform use 3 that you mainly want to focus on and divide each with about 30 minutes of your time engaging with prospects and sharing content. Another useful tip is to always be mostly engaged on off-peak times.

♥ If you do not have a website, you can create a Facebook business page, start putting yourself out there by adding value and not to spam other person’s group. No matter if you are in the fashion or coaching industry when you decide to invest in a website, WordPress is the way to go. It’s ranking with being found on Google is far way better than the other platforms, and it’s free.

♥ If you are going to do an AD, make sure you have an opt-in for your ideal clients and before the opt-in, make sure you have an autoresponder to build your list.

♥ Whether you blog, share or nowhere to be seen, get yourself out there by giving value, even though this may be similar to number 2. You can start off by writing and sharing your expertise this can be done by way of video, using the social media platforms that offer you to record yourself doing a tutorial such as Periscope, or even a simple video tip. Whichever way, it’s always best to let others know you are an expert, even if you think no one is looking. When the time is right, you will appreciate that you have started somewhere.

♥ Don’t sell your services or products to prospective clients on the first meeting. When you decide to do so is entirely up to you, but I would have hated if each time I came across you, I was being pitched to. Show them you care and add value and benefit by being outside of the box. Being helpful and supportive goes a long way, more so than making a quick buck. It’s better to build relationships than services.

♥ Just because your business is online does not mean that your services/products will have to be online. Get yourself out there and network with others in your industry, even with those who are your ideal clients. “Building relationships here again”.

♥ Sharing is caring; you do not have to limit yourself to only being an expert in your industry if your clients can benefit from another service that someone you know offers; you can mention this in a post or even allow that person to guest post on your blog.

♥ Always be in a supportive group where you can learn and grow in your industry. Chances are, you are the only one in your family at present who is working online. Even though your family might get this, they do not understand its entirety. It’s always a great idea to be in a group or community with others who are experiencing the same issues as you are. Don’t be afraid to share, as you might inspire someone who was on your journey a year ago, also learning new trends and courses are always essential to be successful in this business.

♥ Lastly, self-care, you would have thought that this will be the first one for you, but I know you are always taking care of others and you are last on the list, but yet you know that if you do not take care of you, you will suffer, the business will suffer, the household will suffer…we can go on and on with this but it’s best in the beginning of your business to start scheduling those days for you, whether it will mean that on Mondays you will go to the hairdresser to do you, do it with no hesitation.

It was nice of you to stop by.

Until then, happy hiring, and best wishes with your business.

wordpress issues solved

So please take these best practices I myself came across that as WordPress users, we might have overlooked. I thought this might be a good idea to share this with you if you have not come across this as well.

Secret tips for your website maintenance.

#1: So you have signed into your WordPress site and is wondering where to navigate to or what’s the next step to go from one tab to another.

Your dashboard is your friend, or simply put, your home for everything that’s happening on your site.

Make sure your dashboard is as fashionable as your style.

Your dashboard will normally have a summary of what needs to be done. For example, updating your WordPress site to the current version. Another notification could be updating your plugins or themes.

Always check what needs to be done and do this as soon as possible as the updates are available for your site to function at its utmost best.

Remember, your site counts on you to function properly.

Tip: Your first plugins should entail having ones where you can back up your site and having the current plugins that you choose for your site to use.

#2: I am sure you have heard before that not to choose passwords that are easy for hackers to guess.

Girl, you need to strengthen those passwords!

As a VA working with a number of different clients, it’s not easy for the human brain to remember every bit of information that is sensitive to use.

I recommend using a strong password that consists of numbers, uppercase, and lowercase text.

I have recommended LastPass as it’s one of the best password vault out there for you to choose from when storing passwords. LastPass has a free version to try right this moment.

Tip: I recommend using a password between 12-15 characters long.

#3: So based on tip’s 1 suggestion, it is always a good idea to back up your site.

Normally WordPress will display a notification of the current version available for you to update to the current version.

Backup your site regularly, as how you cleanse those makeup brushes!

Before you update, I would hope that you would be backing up all your information quite regularly or paying attention to the current plugins that you have installed. This can be done by using Dropbox to save your information that you have backed up.

Outdated plugins, run the risk of your site not operating at its full potential and causing hiccups that you would not want.

Remember if you are new to this I recommend choosing a plugin such as UpdraftPlus.

Tip: Do not solely depend on WordPress to notify you when to update your site; if you are pressed for time to keep track of these updates, it’s always a good idea to hire additional assistance for your WordPress maintenance. If not, I recommend using a scheduler to remind you of upcoming updates. This can easily be done using an app that has a reminder on your phone or computer.

#4: Anything that is not needed now, delete.

What I mean is, if you have out-dated posts, pages, or spam comments that are not useful to your current website, delete them.

Did you throw out your outdated makeup brushes of recently? Delete and throw out those outdated spam comments to the trash as well!

You want to have a website that is operating at its best.

When a visitor is seeing your site for the first time and sees spam comment on a post that is there for over a month, that can definitely be a turn-off.

Tip: Keep Hackers and Spammers away by having your site clean and fresh in the eyes of visitors.

#5: So you know the saying that a home is not a home without a dog sign? I did not make that up if it’s the first you are hearing about it.

The same can be said about your website. There are some basic pages that need to be on your website, whether or not you have an additional 8 pages.

Just like how you have the essential products in your beauty routine, you should have the same for your website.

These are what I recommend you have: home, about, product/service and your contact page.

I know you might have this because I might have created these for you. If not, you can share these page ideas with your friends and family.

Most people make the mistake of not having these four pages because they might be thinking that this is a personal website.

Some people might even have no pages at all with one of these suggestions or maybe two, but you do need a home page summarizing what this website is about.

You also need to engage your visitors by making them know that you are approachable to reach you (even though it’s online) through your contact page.

Tip: One way to reach your audience is through blogging. Maybe this is not for you, but you would prefer using tools such as a video, or an audio of you speaking to reach your audience. Don’t leave your website alone without making your audience know more about you.

If your site is always active, it’s best practice to always back up your site, update your themes and plugins.

Use these best practices and enjoy these tips. If you need a beautiful PDF guide to always reference back with these suggestions, you can Get it here by signing up for my newsletter!

It was nice of you to stop by.

Until then, happy hiring, and best wishes with your business.
